Lead In

We are back with a bang in KRIYA!!... For the first time in the event history it is up to your brain's engine to think of a contraption. The rules are simple.

Problem Statement

The final result would be hoisting a flag. The contraption must cut a ribbon in the middle(±2 steps). For eg: if your contraption has 50 steps, a ribbon must be cut in the25(±2 steps). The flag should only be a cloth of plain white or its allied colours(also plain). The flag must unfold only after reaching the top of the pole (minimum pole height 0.5 m).

Rules

  • Contraptions should have minimum of 12 steps.
  • Maximum time limit 30 min.
  • Points are given based on nature of steps used. Some bonus points are kept for innovation.
  • Light 10 pts
    Magnetic 10 pts
    Sound 10 pts
    Mechanical 9 pts
    Electronics 9 pts
    Chemical 8 pts
    Electrical 8 pts
  • Each team can have a maximum of 6 members.
  • Only two trials allowed .No point deduction for any step in 2nd trial. However, if the person takes the 2nd trial then 85% of the points are taken of the second trial or the 100% points for the completed steps of the first trial will be considered whichever is higher. however, if the participant does not take the second trial, 100% of the first trial will be taken.
  • Parallel contraption would carry 1.5 times the points as the main one. (Initiating two contraptions in between from a single step and simultaneously going on but that should merge in some point of time before final objective is complete). the longer of the two parallel contraptions would be considered as the main one.
  • Maximum of three interventions allowed in any trial. For each intervention "5" marks will be deducted.
  • Participants are required to submit an abstract of their contraption and the teams selected for the final round will be intimated and given required information regarding the event, venue etc..
  • A space of 10ft X 10ft will be provided to each team.
  • Participants are requested to bring copies of properly printed write-ups of their contraption clearly mentioning no of steps, and no of energy conversions.
  • Ingenious ideas for initiating the contraption would fetch bonus points.
  • Flag and pole must be brought by the participants. They will be provided with a table(if requested) and two bricks.
  • Judges decision will be final.

Judging Criteria

First round
  • Innovation
  • Feasibility
  • Complexity
  • Number of energy conversions
  • Number of steps
Final round

Following formula is used to calculate total points,
Total points = 10*A+9*B+8*C+D*15+E*10-F*5+G*50+X
A - Total no of steps involving mechanical, magnetic, light, vibration till the contraption stops.
B - Total no steps involving sound energy till the contraption stops.
C - Total no. of steps involving chemical energy, electrical, electronics till the contraption stops.
D - No. of parallel contraptions originating from the same step till the contraption stops.
E - No. of energy conversion till the contraption stops.
F - No. of interventions in the trial.
G = 1 - if goal is achieved
G = 0 - if goal is not achieved
X - Bonus points for innovation decided by judge and Coordinators (max 50).

Abstract Details

It should contain the following,
1. Explanation for each and every step
2. Total no of steps
3. No of energy conversions
4. Sketches, Flowcharts to explain any step.
