This event aims at getting close to the industrial scenario. The theme of this event not just solving problems for a industry and giving theoretical solutions but to bring out innovative solutions that can be implemented in an industry. We are looking forward for the teams which can give practical solutions for the problems which have been troubling the industries. Hope this will take you to the NXT LEVEL of engineering which you will come across in the future where you will face a lot of these in your day to day work.

Event Format

  • There will be two stages. The first one is an elimination round and second will be a Presentation in front of judges.
  • The teams should select any one of the below given problem statements and propose a solution for it.
  • An abstract of your idea should be sent to idp@kriya08.org within the specified Date.
  • Selected teams will be informed through e-mail.
  • The finalists will have to make a presentation of how to implement their solution in the industry.
  • The maximum time allotted for presentation is 10 + 5 minutes.

Problem Statement

1. THWART THE WRINKLES:
Ever wondered what will happen if there is a leakage in the pipe carrying fluid at very high temperature and pressure? A boiler industry should make sure that this does not happen. In the process of pipe bending, there is every possibility to get wrinkles on the surfaces, which may cause serious problems in the future. Here for the given conditions, develop a method to bend the pipe without wrinkles. Your innovativeness carries the maximum weightage in this problem.
  • The outer diameter of the pipe is 25 mm
  • The thickness is 3mm
  • Angle to be Bent - 60°
  • Material of pipe is Copper.
  • Method used for bending is Ram Press type
  • Assume the length and other dimensions if required.
IDP
2. PUT A STOP TO BATTER:
The origin of paper is considered as one of the most imperative invention in its history…, ‘Years rolled on’, ‘Industries emerged’, and presently paper manufacturing plants facing a major problem with the steam rollers used for drying the paper in paper mills, which after being worn out should be revamped for the subsequent use, for this purpose hook type cranes are used to pick up from the process line for rework. But unfortunately the walls are close to each other so there is every possibility that it may hit the wall because of its self weight while lifting it, so assuming yourself to be supervising person in this case, suggest a solution to prevent it.
  • The cylinder is a hollow one.(outer dia =30 cm ;inner dia =20)
  • The amplitude of swing is 2000 cm
  • The wall is located at a distance of 500 cm
3. LOW COST AUTOMATION:
This Nxt Level problem is a feast for your creative and logical thinking. The first step in Brake Shoe manufacturing is slitting a metal plate as shown in the video below.

As you see in the video clip, the brake shoes fall in various orientations. The next stage is drilling, for which an autonomous robotic arm picks the brake shoes and places in the machine.

Have a look at the below given orientations.

IDP1

This will definitely be a problem for the robotic arm to locate and pick the shoes. So in order to make the process simple, all the shoes should be in oriented in same position to enable the pre-programmed robot to pick it up. As an example, you can take the alignment shown below.

IDP2

This aligning process is done manually now. You are required to design a low cost automation process for aligning the brake shoes properly in the line (not necessarily the alignment shown in the figure.), which in turn have no downbeat on processing time. (Assume suitable dimensions if required)

4.THREE A’s (Assume,Approach,Actualize)
How would you go about designing a bracket for mounting a horn in an automobile? Your assumptions , approach and actualizing holds the key .. Question seems simple isnt it…it is not so…

5. BREAK THE POTENTIAL
This time the scarcity of water is not our problem (at least assume it is not!!).The sky rappers which fill the skies of cities are the core of the last problem of the ‘NXT Level’. Consider an apartment which is a 20 storey building (approximately 60m high). The common water storage tank is constructed on the top of the building. The water pressure is not uniformly distributed at different altitudes of the building. That is the residents in the ground floor will get the water with maximum pressure, while those in the top floors say 16th floor will not get so. This causes inconvenience to the people in the top floors.

Develop a water distribution system through which you will ensure that all the residents will get the water at the same pressure.

Rules

  • Maximum of three members per team.
  • A brief abstract stating your ideas along with drawings, schematics and simulation results, wherever applicable, should be mailed (No specific page limits).
  • The abstract should contain the names of the team members, email ids and a contact number.
  • Incomplete submissions will be rejected.
  • The same team can send more than one entries.
  • Students of different colleges can also form a team.
  • The judging will be based on the below given criteria.
  • Your works will be rated by a team of judges comprising of both industry Personnel and Faculties.
  • The judges’ decision will be final and binding.

Judging Criteria

  • Genuineness
