Remember MacGyver???
It was this soap screened sometime during the 70's or the 80's where the character MacGyver gets out of every single life threatening situation using only the things in the surroundings.
Imagine you were him.
And . . .
That you are caught somewhere and you getting out of there rests solely on your ability to create your escape route using the scrap that you have.
What will you use? What will you create?  Well...
If you rack your brains you might be able to work wonders with scrap. That's what this entire event is about. Widely known as "JUNKYARD WARS" it originated as "SCRAPHEAP CHALLENGE". So lets go back and revoke the past spirit of this contest. Battle it out between the top contestants in the country and try to make your name stay put.

Lead in

You'll be given some scrap for starters. Your ability to transform it into what has been asked of you is the only thing that's gonna put you up on top. Contestants should have a fair knowledge of working of machinery in workshops. Try to put together a team with members specializing in different aspects of engineering. More diverse the knowledge, more of an edge you have over other teams.
So stop reading and start thinking about how to make your weird toys work here!!!

Event Format

There will be 2 rounds in this event:
  • Preliminary round: This round is an online round. It will be an exhaustive set of questions covering almost anything in engineering (anything related to the event i.e.).It will also test your basic knowledge of any kind of theory required in the workshop.
  • Finals: The biggest part of this event, this round sees the teams given 12 hours over 2 days(6 hours every day) and some tinkering time on the third to try and build a perfect solution to the final problem statement and of course the final demonstration. They will be given complete access to the junkyard to take anything they may perceive useful and they will be given access to PSG Industrial Institute Workshop for building purposes. The testing of these machines will take place on the final day and based on their performance, it will be decided which team will go home as victors.

Rules

  • A maximum of 5 members per team is allowed (and recommended keeping the physical work of the final round in mind)
  • In the prelims, you will be asked to take an online test which will contain questions on basic physics and workshop technology. Also your innovation will be challenged.
  • Before participating, Brush up on the topics like mechanics of materials, types and working of mechanisms and don't forget to revise the workshop basics, especially the working and safety measures.
  • The coordinators and PSG Industrial Institute Workshop staff will be there to help you of course.
  • We ensure your safety by providing you with helmets, gloves, and goggles. But first and foremost you have to be careful about what you are doing and how it has to be done. Remember Safety Comes First. We suggest you wear old jeans and sport shoes during the finals.
  • You will also be provided with necessary machinery like Drilling, Lathe, Milling, Gas cutting and Welding Equipments
  • Judging criteria will be stated clearly before the start of final round.
  • Kind of junk that will be provided in the junkyard, all the materials that you will need to make your solution.
  • The decision of the judges stands final.
